NEW ULM — The New Ulm Country Club hosted the 23rd annual Schell’s Bottle Cap Open on Monday, with the team of Phil Fischer, Josh Holm, John O’Hare, Jordan Trullinger and Adam Johnston winning the event with a score of 130.

“Everyone complimented each other’s game,” O’Hare said. “Weather was fantastic.”

The group’s best hole was Hole 8, where they achieved an eagle.

“We made some nice long putts that really came into play,” O’Hare said. “The course is in beautiful condition and it was a pleasure to play here today.”

The team won a sudden-death playoff with the second-place team of Randy Kirchberg, Rick Jensen, Gregg Holm, John Rieger and Stan Miller, who also scored a 130. In third place with 131 were Larry Hahka, Brad Wieland, Dave Hansen, Ted Marti and Tim Kohn.

Coming in fourth were Dan Reinke, Craig Larson, Dave Peterson, Duane Ristau and Mark Olson with 131, and in fifth place with 132 were Tery O’Donnell, Hunter Bode, Jamie Johnson, Paul Holm and Wayne Schoper. Brian Patterson, Jim Meyer, Dave Brown, John Eichten and Rollo Lentz placed sixth with 133, and in seventh were Todd McKeeth, Jim Hannegan, Gene Voges, Joe Slander and Ty Sanderson with 133. In eighth were Randy Paa, Bob Skillings, Jason Steele, Tom Fenske and Jeff Schone with 134, and Tim Rahe, Phil Vorwerk, Rick Kamm, Jerry Meinders and Gary Kruggel took ninth with 134.

Dean Warta, Don Olson and Kevin Loverde won the low scramble with a 64, with Gene Voges, Joe Slander and Ty Sanderson finishing as runners-up with 66. Hahka and Wieland won the low best ball with a 62, with Fischer and Josh Holm placing second with 62.

For proximity games, Jay Longhenry had the Longest Putt on Hole 9, while Tom Fenske had the Closest to the Pin on Hole 10. Pete Eichten had the Longest Drive on Hole 18.
